Yong tau fu

My mom's excitement about me coming home is so cute and heartwarming. She's given me so much support since i got here and has been so kind and understanding. I almost cried when i read her smses today! She's always asking me stuff like what i wanna eat when i get back or what i want for christmas or where i wanna go for holiday. Very touching right?

Ok, top of my list of things to eat is YONG TAU FU! oh my gawd...I'm here in my dark, cold room now, thinking of a hot bowl of yong tau fu. The thought alone is enough to kill me.

Did i mention that a few days ago i ate hainanese chicken rice!? I think if i had eaten it in singapore, I would have spat it out and stomped on it 1843235252 times but since I was in the blistering cold
(i swear i was almost a popsicle) in nottingham, i gobbled it all up. Seriously, all the nottingham people were recommending it to us and telling us like it was made from scratch and all that nonsense. ack. Give me some real chicken rice.

road trip!!! (nottingham)

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

It was freezing in nottingham! I had to eat so so much just to keep warm. Hot chocolate, fries, clementines, digestives, maltesers, chicken rice, onion&mustard breadcrumbs, white rabbit sweets etc.

but some good came out of the trip. I watched the most exciting basketball match EVER! AND, jiaying is hilarious! I can't even have a proper conversation with her cos i burst out in hysterical laughter every 5 seconds.

how did they come up with this?

The Keys to Your Heart

You are attracted to those who are unbridled, untrammeled, and free.

In love, you feel the most alive when your lover is creative and never lets you feel bored.

You'd like to your lover to think you are optimistic and happy.

You would be forced to break up with someone who was ruthless, cold-blooded, and sarcastic.

Your ideal relationship is open. Both of you can talk about everything... no secrets.

Your risk of cheating is zero. You care about society and morality. You would never break a commitment.

You think of marriage as something that will confine you. You are afraid of marriage.

In this moment, you think of love as something you can get or discard anytime. You're feeling self centered.

just because

I should be doing my hw now...but all i can think of is waking up to the sound of rain and staring out my window at the familiar neighbouhood. I miss my bed.

road trip!!!

Saturday was my long anticipated trip to oxford. Jesse, bernita and I took the 100 minute bus ride up. The day didn't start out very promising...

Image hosted by Photobucket.com
I had 1.5 hours of sleep the night before, the weather was extremely foggy and cold, sand not to mention, I was having an extremely bad hair day. I had to tame the mane by tying up all my hair.

But as things progressed, the day started looking up. We came across this beautiful area, but i can't remember what it's called.
Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Although the weather was sub 0, there was an upside to it! Since it was so cold, we could see frost in the air! It was so beautiful to see sparkling specks dancing in the air and to see everything covered in an immaculate sheet of white.
Image hosted by Photobucket.com
There were frost-laced spider webs, tiny footprints on the cobbled-stoned pavements, and a pretty garden with pretty looking shrubs.
Image hosted by Photobucket.com
Had such a good time photographing the garden, building and myself. :)

After that, we wandered off to the botanic gardens. It was still pretty even though alot of the trees had shed all it's leaves and everything looked slightly dead.
Image hosted by Photobucket.com
Image hosted by Photobucket.com
The small ponds had a thin sheet on ice on top. ( I know it was thin because i stepped on it. oops)
Image hosted by Photobucket.com
There was also this nice lake there with ducks and swans swimming inside. It was there that bernita told me the horrible truth that she's felt like kicking the swan cos it looked so fat! Urgh! haha, i gave a nervous giggle and hoped that she was kidding.

We went to visit a some oxford colleges after that. They were all very, for lack of a better word, english.
Image hosted by Photobucket.com
Everything was very orderly and prim and proper. I could tell that their sense of tradition was very strong. They have beautiful colleges there with superb and old architecture. Almost all the colleges there have their own chapel. But after seeing so many of them, they all started looking a little similar.

My absolute favourite part of my trip was going to christ church college! THAT WAS WHERE HARRY POTTER WAS SHOT!!!!
Image hosted by Photobucket.com
Does the staircase look familiar? it's where tom riddle was standing, remember?! The other pictures are of the dining hall. It's huge!

I wasn't the only one going nuts over the place...other people were oohing and aahing all over the place as well!
Image hosted by Photobucket.com
These are still pictures of the dining hall. There tainted glass on the walls and a big fireplace. If u look closely at the tainted glass, you might be able to see the white rabbit, and the mad hatter and other characters of 'Alice in wonderland'. I found out that the guy who wrote Alice in wonderland was a lecturer there. :)

Image hosted by Photobucket.com
This is the courtyard. It was so beautiful and I remember it from the movie! I snappedso many pictures of this place. I wanted to go walk around, but the security guard wouldn't let me and said it was only for the students of the college. Bummer.

I was so overwhelmed by that place. I couldn't help myself and went to watch "harry potter and the golblet of fire" after that. teehee. The movie was amazing! I really really like it. Oh, and did u know the cinema in oxford is free seating? so u buy the tickets and whoever gets there first gets to choose where they want to sit. So it's kinda like, if you get there early, you can get good seats but you'll have to sit through all the advertisements. We got there quite late but our seats were pretty good.

Since we had time to burn after the movie (our bus ride back was only at midnight), we went to an ice cream parlour to sit down and talk.
Image hosted by Photobucket.com

I really enjoyed my trip there. The town is so nice and friendly. The pace of life there is slow and laid back. It was extremely relaxing to go down for the weekend and take a break from the hectic london life i've been leading.

friday night out

Spent friday night out with some friends from bankside. We had dinner at this cozy little italian restaurant at marble arch. Then we watched "in her shoes". (my second movie in london!) It was a nice movie with amusing and emotional bits, and not as chick flickish as i thought it'd be. I have to say one thing though, popcorn here SUCKS.

i went on a fruitful shopping trip today. I wish i could buy the whole oxford street! In the end, i bought 2 scarfs, a red and white stripped halter (i'm gonna wear this if i ever go for NDP), and 2 pairs of undergarments. (jinnie!!! i'm gonna buy one for u too!)

it's been too long since i last had retail therapy.

perfect marriage

There are lots of sex blogs out there that are tacky and absolutely appalling. They talk about mindless humping, one night stands, prostitutes, stealing of panties, zao-geng (trying to see someone's underwear) etc. For example : http://www.dickchan.blogspot.com. I have very little respect for this guy and the way he treats women like sex objects. But then again, he doesn't deserve all my critisism because there are tons of guys out there just like him.

On the other hand, there are some "sex blogs" out there that don't cheapen sex, love or marriage. I recently read a blog set up by a guy to talk about his marriage. It is one of the most unbelievable blogs i've ever read! It is amazing how loving he is towards his wife and how much he admires her. Even after 28 years of marriage, he absolutely worships her. She may not have the perfect body or demeanor but he thinks the world of her. He does talk about the sex between them but it in no way demeans his wife, or the sex they have.

This is an entry I've taken from his blog:

In the past it was always a universal truth that the girl in school that all the boys would lust after would have a not-so-popular friend.

Phillip Larkin described it like this:

Wild Oats

About twenty years ago
Two girls came in where I worked -
A bosomy English rose
And her friend in specs I could talk to.
Faces in those days sparked
The whole shooting-match off, and I doubt
If ever one had like hers:
But it was the friend I took out.

And in seven years after that
Wrote over four hundred letters,
Gave a ten-guinea ring
I got back in the end, and met
At numerous cathedral cities
Unknown to the clergy. I believe
I met beautiful twice. She was trying
Both times (so I thought) not to laugh.

Parting, after about five
Rehearsals, was an agreement
That I was too selfish, withdrawn,
And easily bored to love.
Well, useful to get that learnt.
In my wallet are still two snaps
Of bosomy rose with fur gloves on.
Unlucky charms, perhaps.

But beauty is a lot more complicated than ‘bosomy rose’ versus the ‘friend in specs’. Very often true beauty is to be found in the friend, rather than the rose.

Perhaps if Larkin had recognised this and not continued to lust after bosomy rose he would have been more happy in his relationship. It’s just as well for us that he didn’t, of course, otherwise we would have been denied his wonderful poems.

For me, that was the key point of the film American Beauty. True beauty is often to be found in the most unexpected places. Like the image of the paper bag floating on the wind.

Thora Birch plays the not-so-popular friend to the supposedly beautiful Mena Suvari, who is the epitome of what many men would regard as ‘hot’.

But when the camera cuts to the view of Thora Birch topless in the window my thought at that point was, “Wow, she is gorgeous“. For me it was Thora Birch that was the real American Beauty, not Mena Suvari.

Indeed, Thora Birch seems to have made a career out of playing the not-so-popular friend. And that’s why she is one of my heroines.

In The Hole she was the not-so-popular friend of Keira Knightley. I kept wanting to shout at the males in the film, dammit, can’t you see that Thora is much more beautiful than Kiera!

An in Ghost World she played the not-so-popular friend to Scarlett Johansson, but again, in my view, is much the more beautiful of the two.

Sue also found herself in school befriending an attractive girl that many boys lusted after. She had her admirers too, of course, but for a while lived in the shadow of her popular friend. And I suppose I too lusted after popular friend for a while, until I realised where the true beauty lay.

I could have made the same mistake that Larkin had made, in not appreciating who was really the most beautiful, but thankfully I didn’t.

I had my wild oats period in my first year of college; Sue and I had agreed to be ‘just friends’, although unbelievably this was the period when we had our ‘First Night‘ encounter. Looking back on that how could we have carried on just being friends? What was going through my mind at that point? I don’t know. I guess I was still searching for the perfect woman, until I came to my senses and realised that I had found her already.

As American Beauty shows us, true beauty is often there right in front of us; we just need to open our eyes to see it.

yup. I actually take advice from his blog on how relationships/marriages should be.

Lord Mayor's show

was coming home from netball and was lucky enough to see a little of the lord mayor show. It marks the day when the Guilds of London would celebrate their prosperity and the Lord Mayor paraded in a special gold carriage through the heart of London's City district.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com
There were carriages and everyone was dressed in top coats and hats, equipped with whips and all. There were more than a hundred horses lined up and all of them were beautiful with their glossy coats and muscular bodies

Image hosted by Photobucket.com
while waiting for the parade to start, the weather got really cold so the horses had to put on coats! :) teehee. london's really starting to get cold nowadays...

Image hosted by Photobucket.com
and of course...when u have so many horses...it's gonna be a messy affair...

I didn't stay to watch the parade but I managed to catch a glimpse of the bands, floats and millitary parade. There were fireworks at river thames as well :)

i am that girl

i am that girl who loves the rain but uses an umbrella
i am that girl who hates it when people don't eat a meal to themselves
i am that girl who dislikes ahlians but fears she is one herself

i am that girl who has a sister whom everyone thinks is the brain of the family
i am that girl who wanted to prove to everyone she wasn't stupid but was too lazy to do anything about it
i am that girl whose chinese teacher told her she should go to EM3 and was called the black sheep of the class
i am that girl whom you told her life was going down the toilet bowl
i am that girl who felt so ashamed of herself and cried herself to a state of numbness
i am that girl who shocked everyone with her o'level and a'level results
i am that girl who made it to lse but still fears not succeeding

i am that girl who loved you for a year and admired you from afar
i am that girl who came to hate you because i knew i could never have you
i am that girl who was stunned when you finally admitted you liked her
i am that girl who apologised because she loved someone else
i am that girl who made you regret not saying anything earlier and told u regrets were useless
i am that girl who made the right choice and has no regrets

i am that girl who kept changing friends in secondary 1
i am that girl made use of you and wanted to leave you when someone else better came along
i am that girl who never did and never will find anyone better than you
i am that girl who will be your best friend forever

free play!

By pure luck, I managed to watch another play today! wahahaha! And...guess what? it was completely, 100% free!
Image hosted by Photobucket.com

can you see the o.oo pounds on the tickets? heh, and they were really good seats as well :) It's a new comedy play and has only been showing for 6 days. I didn't find the jokes that funny but the ending was nice.

I'm just a lucky girl to be able to watch a play for free :)

remains of the day

I received a parcel!
Image hosted by Photobucket.com
It cheered me up quite abit :) It's so coincidental, the minute marcus leaves, i get his parcel. heh. I really wish he could have been here when i opened up the box. Inside was some food and the present he made :) It's too embarrassing to post online, but I really love his present. I can tell alot of effort went into it.

On a side note, he gave me a white rose too which helps to brighten up my room.

:) it's been really long since I had flowers.

35 more days to go

5 wonderful days have passed by and I can't believe time passed so fast. Wasn't it just yesterday that he called to tell me he was downstairs in the lobby? hmm, I think if it weren't for pictures, i wouldn't know where all the time went.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com
Besides the usual slacking, studying and mucking around, we actually did stuff!

Image hosted by Photobucket.com
I brough him to covent garden (which he loved) and it just so happened that they were having the 'food lovers fair'! haha, how apt for the both of us :) There was so much food around and we circled the place like vultures. We finally decided upon this moroccan pancake which tasted almost exactly like prata/murtabak. I wish I hadn't eaten so much for lunch, then i probably could have eaten alot more!!!

I wasn't happy about not being able to eat more than that. So i thought, since i can't eat everything, I might as well take pictures of everything.
Image hosted by Photobucket.com
This isn't everything, but I was too lazy to put all the food pictures up. There were olives, chocolate, breads, crepes, dried meats, sausages etc. marcus thought that the uncooked sausages looked really offensive. haha.

Well, since I had school, I couldn't spend every moment with him. He walked me to school everyday and sat through lectures with me but during my classes, I had no choice but to let him wander off by himself. When he left me he was a normal tourist looking boy, but he......
Image hosted by Photobucket.com
returned as an arsenal trooper! He went absolutely crazy when he visited the arsenal stadium. He bought a jacket, poster and a cap for me! :) heh.

So after my classes and his shoping escapade, my happy arsenal trooper and I went to watch Les miserables, but we had time to kill so we decided to go grocery shopping at chinatown and grab a bite to eat.
Image hosted by Photobucket.com
One thing I love about marcus being here is that I get to eat anything I want. We don't care about the cost or how inconvenient it is to get it, we just get it! So I felt like eating zi cha, so we did :) It's so nice to eat chinese food after days of eating sandwhiches and pasta.

We were so happy eating that we completely lost track of time and we were late for les miserables. Urgh! We missed the first 10 minutes of it
Image hosted by Photobucket.com
But things turned out great in the end! I loved out seats and the actors were really good. I lovelovelove les miserables! It was even better than the first time i watched it. I want to watch it again. Oh, in case the photos are too incomprehensible, they are photos of some scenes, the lovely ceiling and the drinks and icecream we had during the intermission

He left yesterday and I really had no mood to take photos. The day's events are still blurry but here are a few photos
Image hosted by Photobucket.com
We had dominos for lunch/dinner and I took my virgin tube ride. Can u believe I've been in london for so long and I haven't taken the tube yet!

When he was here, everything felt like a dream. I always felt that I was going to wake up any moment, and now, i have. My room suddenly feels so big without him. But things aren't that bad. I may be sad, but i know all i have to do is go to sleep 35 more times before i can see him again.

happy days

ok remember the happy thing i was talking about? well....MARCUS FLEW OVER TO LONDON! I almost fell off my bed when he called me and told me that he was downstairs at the lobby. He's totally insane! But i'm really happy he did that, cos I was missing home so much :)

well, ever since he got here...he's been having some serious jet lag. He just sleeps and sleeps and sleeps...
Image hosted by Photobucket.com
For some reason he loves my zebra throw. he just makes himself at home and plonks himself on my bed. He snores! urgh! it disturbs me when i do my work.

I have to have some fun if he's here in london right? If not, what's the point in him coming all the way here...? soo...
Image hosted by Photobucket.com
teehee. I find these 2 pictures damn funny! I had some left over heart shape gummies and i placed them on his face. Oh, and i've never seen anyone sleep cross legged before. hah!

When he does wake up..... he eats, drinks, stares at me and thinks of vulgar things to do
Image hosted by Photobucket.com
can u see his thinking face? he made that vulgar looking round thing out of barbeque sauce and leftover paper napkins. *look of disapproval*

But, it's been so fun having him around! loving every second of it! This is our first time in a foreign country together. I'm enjoying showing him around and showing him my way of life (which for some reason, he loves)
Image hosted by Photobucket.com
All our memories so far. =) almost half of them consist of food! Today we tried pret a manger, jacket potatoes with baked beans and cheese, chips and chicken kebabs. The chicken kebabs were so so so good! Plus, it's only a 5-10 minute walk from bankside. I forsee myself going there many times in the future. heh. I'm so happy!!!!!!

just like magic

a crazy crazy thing has happened :) will blog about it soon. I'm insanely happy.
